Luna 1
I had the stretcher bars made exactly 12" x 12" to fit in a beautiful frame that I had in mind for this painting. I stretched the cotton canvas and primed it with two thick coats of gesso. I only lightly sanded the final coat as I read that the number one reason painting fail and crack is due to poor adhesion because the gessoed surface was too smooth. Being trained as a watercolor painter, I am really picky about my drawings and if you look closely you can tell that I re-drew the towers several times in order to get them where I liked them. I pretty much had everything figured out exactly before I began painting. I did figure out though that buttons are in the center of a coat and so I moved that after I began the painting.
