At this point, I have painted her coat and also started painting Luna. I chose a dark red for the coat to make a more balanced painting. I knew that the primary color was going to be blue because of the sky and that the towers were also going to be cool (so they wouldn't be too distracting), so I chose a warm color for the coat. When I paint a portrait, I almost always start with the eyes because I find that I need to be completely happy with them before I can move on. If the eyes aren't right then the painting is a failure. Eyes are the first things people look at in a painting so I spend lots of time painting them in. I painted the nose next because I really enjoy painting things with a shiny surfaces.
